Khirbet Summeily 2012 season

We have arrived in Israel and are ready to start excavations at Khirbet Summeily tomorrow. It’ll be a larger group this year and we’ll excavate a larger area. With the finds we uncovered last year, it’ll be an interesting season. So far we think there are 5 phases of construction on the site. Phase : occupation by Bedouin, agriculture, topsoil. Phase 2: foundations of walls from 8th century BCE. Phase 3: main occupation, probably late 10th century. Well-preserved floors. Phase 4: rebuild from phase 5. several walls. Phase 5: early site from 11th century BCE. We think we found the walls around the site from this phase.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll update this blog regularly chronicling our finds.
